One of only five heritage corridors in Ohio, the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor was established in 1992 in Ohio and 1993 in Indiana. Its mission is to identify historic, natural, cultural and recreational resources in the Maumee River watershed, to increase public awareness of these resources and to help protect them for future generations.
Among the accomplishments of the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor are initiating studies by the National Park Service leading to Congressional designation of the Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Fort Miamis National Historic Site as an affiliated unit of the National Park Service, and Scenic Byways designation for 60 miles of roads along the Maumee River.
