Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne marks where the St. Mary's and St. Joseph Rivers meet, forming the Maumee River. The beautiful park, located along the Rivergreenway trail, is the year-round center of festivals and family activities. Access to the historic old fort is available by foot bridge.

Historic Old Fort Wayne, originally built by General Anthony Wayne on this key site in 1794, has been partially reconstructed. Today you can feel the past as re-enactors show what life was like in the early days.

After the Battle of Fallen Timbers, General Wayne and his men followed the Maumee River toward Kekionga or Miamitown. In September 1794 Wayne ordered a fort to be built on a hill facing the confluence of St. Mary, St. Joseph, and Maumee Rivers. For more information call 260.427.6000

Botanical Gardens

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Garden Under Glass, downtown in Fort Wayne, features three distinct areas - Desert House, Tropical House, and showcase, where every two months it changes to a variety of seasonal flowers. Open year-round, seven days a week. For more information call 260.427.6440

Children's Zoo

The Children's Zoo hosts 3,000 creatures on 40 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, including an African Veldt where animals roam free, and an Indonesian rain forest with tropical birds and butterflies. The History Center

Located in downtown Fort Wayne, The History Center is the place for the whole family to explore fascinating artifacts from the city's past while experiencing hands-on, interactive exhibits. See Anthony Wayne's camp bed, learn about the great Miami Chief Little Turtle or even do some time in the old county jail!

The History Center, also home to the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, has an extensive archive which includes thousands of documents, photos, and blueprints related to Fort Wayne history. Science Central, a living laboratory of sights, sounds and hands-on exhibits that help you learn. For scientists of every age who want to learn more about them, there's plenty to discover here.

Museums

Fort Wayne has several special museums - the Lincoln Museum, Firefighters Museum, African-American Historical Museum and Catherdral Square Museum; all offer exhibits and displays that are each unique and interesting. Check out religious artifacts, and some of the finest Bavarian stained glass windows in the country. The Allen County Courthouse listed in the National Historic Register, has been recently restored to its turn of the century magnificence.
